There’s no getting around it —
We are walking, breathing embodiments of the DNA passed down by our ancestors.
Our genetics play a massive role in shaping who we are from:
What we look like.
What we’re naturally good at.
Even who we fall in love with .
We don't get to choose our parents, or the code that builds us.
But whether we like it or not, it’s there — written into every cell.
It’s only natural to sometimes feel trapped by it — like cosmic forces beyond our control are holding us back.
But are they really?
Or are we just making excuses?
The Truth About Potential
Let’s use some extremes to this better visualize this:
Take LeBron James
The man didn’t just stumble into basketball greatness. He was genetically gifted with extraordinary attributes — height, strength, and athleticism — all the raw tools perfectly suited for the sport.
Eddie Hall, on the other hand, is a mountain of a man.
His genetic structure gifted him the potential to pull literal trucks and win the title of the World's Strongest Man.
Both of these men are tanks in their own fields.
But swap them around for a second?
It would be a pretty sore sight to imagine Eddie Hall trying to dunk a basketball.
Or poor LeBron trying to lift cars….almost laughable.
The truth is: genetics matter.
Talent matters.
It always has and it always will
But it’s a little more complicated than that.
You’ve probably heard the old saying:
“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
It sticks for a reason.
Because the ones at the very top — the ones we admire, watch, and write about — they usually have both:
Genetic gifts and an insane, relentless work ethic.
You Can Max Out What You’re Given
If I followed Arnold Schwarzenegger’s exact diet, training program, sleep schedule, and even his morning mindset routine (Perhaps even taken the secret sauce💉)
I might be able get into the absolute peak condition of my genetic potential.
But I most certainly still wouldn’t look like Arnold. (Believe me — I’ve tried.)
Not even close.
That’s just biology.
We’re all working with different blueprints.
You can work with what you have.
You can squeeze every drop out of your genetic hand.
And sometimes, that's enough to build something incredible.
But here’s the part no one tells you:
So How Do We Win
You don’t need to out-bench Eddie Hall.
You don’t need to out-dunk LeBron.
You don’t have to try and beat someone else at their game.
Any you don’t have to live trapped by the normal rules.
If the rules don’t favor you?
Learn them.
Then break them.
Invent your own game — one that plays to your strengths.
Find an arena where your natural gifts are an advantage.
If you can't find one, create one.
The people who win aren't the ones who deny their limits.
They're the ones who accept them,
then find a way to bend the game around their strengths.
We might be shaped by our genes.
But we are not doomed by them.
Final Thought
Your DNA is the foundation — not the cage.
Accept it.
Max it out.
And if the system isn’t built for you?
Build your own.
